Summit Point, WV – The excitement was palpable as the race weekend kicked off, marking a triumphant return to the podium for driver Short, who finished in second place aboard the Saturn SW2.
Starting from outside the front row, Short knew he had a tough challenge ahead, particularly with the pole-winning Chevy Cobalt beside him. As the green flag dropped, the two cars raced into turn one, neck and neck. Short pushed hard, fighting for the lead, but ultimately, the Cobalt edged ahead, leaving Short to settle into second.
By lap three, the leaders began encountering lap traffic, a key moment in the race. The Cobalt navigated the slower cars with impressive agility, enabling it to stretch out a lead that would prove challenging to overcome. Despite this, Short maintained a solid performance, ensuring he kept a comfortable gap between himself and third place.
With the race settling into its rhythm, Short found his groove, focusing on consistency and precision behind the wheel. The laps ticked down, and while the lead position remained out of reach, Short’s strong handling and smart racecraft solidified his hold on second.
As the checkered flag waved, Short crossed the finish line in second place, marking a noteworthy achievement for himself and the team. This podium finish highlighted the team’s resilience and hard work and set the stage for future races. The team celebrated the well-earned result, hoping to continue this momentum in the upcoming events.
DENNIS SHORT, DRIVER/OWNER NO. 24 SATURN SW2: “I want to take a moment to thank my incredible team for all their hard work and dedication in preparing and setting up the car for the race. Their effort behind the scenes made all the difference on the track. This second-place finish is a testament to our teamwork and resilience. I couldn’t have done it without them.
While I had hoped to stand on the top step of the podium for them, we can proudly celebrate this well-deserved second place. They provided me with a car that had the potential to win, but I struggled to navigate the traffic as effectively as Jeff did in his Cobalt. Nevertheless, we have so much to be proud of, and we will take time to celebrate our accomplishments together.”
DON SHORT, CREW CHIEF NO. 24 SATURN SW2: “I’m proud of Dennis for his drive today. He was fast and consistent and deserved to be on the podium. I also want to thank the entire crew; their hard work and dedication in the paddock made this performance possible. We may not have won, but we showed our strength as a team, and I couldn’t be more grateful for their effort.”
